In this blog post I will talk about a film maker named Micheal Moore who deports from the United States and goes on an adventure around the world. He visits multiple different countries and talks to the citizens, the leaders and learns different beliefs that the country believes in and how they run their system. As Moore's journey embarks, he marks the territory where he visited that day and what he learned about the country with the United States flag and addresses that what that particular country is doing, the United States should do the same because it seems to be working for them. I'll also explain logos, ethos, pathos, telos, and kairos and why they are relevant in the blog. In the documentary Where to Invade Next, Michael Moore traveled outside the United States and saw different perspectives of what other countries in the world handle different types of situations such as, the prison system, education, sex-ed, and health care. He traveled from Italy, to Finland and talked to multiple residents, or leaders from that particular country. Michael Moore interviewed different people and asked about how they run their government. Michael Moore then would compare the United States, to that particular country and how the US should use their ideas and beliefs to make the United States a better country. He then would go ahead a plant the United States flag right where he visited. Michael Moore visited prisons in Norway. He visited a low security prison, and a maximum security prison. Moore was escorted around the prison where police officers aren't armed, and are lenient on the inmates, because the inmates aren't violent. The inmates are barley locked up but instead they learn how to live in the real world. They learn to cook, and communicate to other inmates, and hav access to education. In Slovenia, Moore visited a college campus where the students are given free tuition. Students don't have to pay tuition in the future, and will not be overwhelmed with student debt when they get out of college. In Italy, Moore learned about their paid holidays, and how they have a paid honeymoon. Also they get a 2-hour lunch break throughout their work hours. Michael Moore traveled the world to get a grasp of what other countries offer to their citizens and how it seems to be working for them. Moore explained that the United States should do more of what their doing to make our country better. How does Michael Moore establish ethos? When Moore was talking to the citizens, or the leaders of that particular country he gave valid reasoning behind what the United States versus what the county did. Moore had credible sources. Moore legit went across the country to discuss these topics with people who live in that country. All The way he organized the documentary didn't bash the United States directly, but Moore explained that we should take some of their ideas and beliefs and use it in our government. Moore was honest, and straight forward and wasn't tip toeing around with his questions. How does Michael Moore use logos? Michael Moore had sources from all over the world. The logic and reasoning behind all the questions that Moore discussed with the citizens were real people, who experienced what it's like to live in that country and what they do, and don't do in their government system. All of the questions that Moore asked either were people who lived in that country, or the person who ran the country. In fact he even had questions for the police officers as well. All these people gave valid answers to whatever Moore questioned. The answers that these people gave were strong enough to back up. How does Michael Moore appeal to pathos? His emotion appeal in the beginning of the film was funny. He interviewed a couple from Italy who had a 13th salary pay, a paid honeymoon vacation, and explained that the United States gets none of that. The couple looked at him funny, but it seemed like it was a way for the audience to laugh but not take it too serious. The emotional appeal through out the movie was desire. Moore just wanted to learn about their country and explain to that how ours works and wants to take ideas back to the US. Moore wanted to expand his learning for him to learn, but also his audience. He wanted his audience to be able to learn about different countries as well. What is Michael Moore's telos? Michael Moore's purpose of this whole movie was for the audience and the people back home that these countries are thriving while were barley making it. These countries are calm and collected and treat their neighbors, friends, inmates with kindness and respect. The countries thrive to make their people happy. The purpose was in hopes for us as Americans to treat each other, and our government with respect in hopes that we can change and take these ideas from these other countries who are have a good system and that it's working for them to bring those ideas here back to America. What is the kairos of this film? The setting, the time and the place of the film takes place from Italy, to Finland, to Solvenia. This film takes us all over the world. This documentary seems like it's recent. The quality of the film still relates to the problems that this country face on a daily basis here in America. The movie is still relevant, and it discusses topic that are still talked about to this day.
