When I was writing Blog #7 I wanted to focus on the process of writing my life-choice memoir. I wanted to make sure I gave enough detail for the people who stumbled over my blog and had no idea what I was writing about. I wanted to explain in detail as much as I could for readers to understand the numerous stages of the writing process to get an outcome of a tough decision that I had to make.
How did you feel about English Composition before the semester started? How do you feel now? On the first day of class I expected a regular English class. We would read and write a bunch of essays. In high school, English classes were the same exact material every single year. we would write up paragraphs and having tests/quizzes every other day. But, when I first walked into class and had Mr. Sabatino I knew this English class was about to be totally different, but a good kind of different. When I first heard that we were going to blog I was excited. I love reading fashion blogs, and I also love reading other people's blogs that they have created and who have interesting content. I like how bloggers talk about things that they have experienced or read about or even just enjoy talking about specific things that matter most to them, and that's what I wanted to have my personal blogs to be about. I wanted them to seem interesting and for people to get a sense on why I agree or disagree with something, and also for them to see me as a person and as a writer. In this class, how do we define composition? in the first couple of classes in the beginning of the semester we had to come up with our own definition of what the word "composition" means. My definition was a certain piece of writing relating to English. The class definition was a creation, genre, intellectual creation, way something is structured, combination of parts. In this class, we write so we can.... We write in this class because it is only going to make us better writers. Writing is a process and not every piece of writing is going to be perfect. If you keep editing and fixing mistakes, it is going to make me better writer and my classmates in the end. I've learned throughout high school and college that you have to start somewhere. A rough draft is mandatory to write. If there is no starting point it's going to be hard to get all of my ideas out on paper. Each time we write, we are learning. Writing goes a far way. We write every single day and it's a tool that we use on a daily basis and it's important that we make sense, we stay on topic and it's written clearly. What have you learned thus far about yourself as a writer? I've learned a lot about myself as a writer during this semester. I never was a good writer, but I did learn was blogging is something that I enjoy doing now. Even though there are million different genres on writing, I really enjoy writing blogs and publishing it to my website. I've never done anything like this, and it's something that made me step out of my comfort zone. Blogging lets me write freely. Usually for essays you have to talk about that certain topic and only that topic but blogging you can let people know how you feel about something, or if you ever experienced the same exact thing that character in the story went through. Blogging is more personal and that's that part I really enjoy. I also feel like I became a better writing because of the blogs. Each week it's totally different writing then the week before. As a writer in this class, do you feel as if you are improving? How so? Yes, I really feel like I'm improving as the weeks go on in the semester. I enjoy writing the blogs and writing comments on other classmates pages. I also like the feedback and I like hearing what other students view points are on a the readings that were assigned that week. The readings are also interesting and aren't readings that I wouldn't want to respond to. If I'm interested enough I feel like my writing is better. I know what I'm talking about, and I want to write something meaningful instead of writing words on my blog just because I have too. Blogging has made me a better writer, which I never was thought possible! What are your three primary English Composition I goals for the rest of this semester? My first goal is to have at least 3 or 4 good drafts for my life-choice memoir. I want each draft to be better than the last and write them to the best of my ability. My second goal is get much as feedback as I can by teachers, classmates and anyone that reads my life-choice memoir or any type of writing we do in class. I would want to use their feedback to fix any mistakes or change my writing to make my writing more interesting to read, and to keep the audience entertain for them to keep reading my story. My third goal is to keep up with my blogging. Ever since we made our own website I've loved the fact that this website is for my writing. Every week I get to look back on my blog posts and get better each week.
